Land at Ngurah Rai International (DPS) in Tuban. Indian passport holders pay IDR 500,000 (~₹2,655) for a 30-day visa on arrival, plus Bali's IDR 150,000 (~₹750) tourist levy, mandatory since February 2024. This trip works north to south — Ubud first, then coast — so tonight is the long transfer inland. Roughly ninety minutes, longer if you land into evening traffic.
Start inland. Ubud is Bali's craft and ritual centre, ringed by the villages that supply it — Mas for woodcarving, Celuk for silver, Batubulan for stone. The Tegallalang terraces north of town belong to the subak irrigation system UNESCO lists. Campuhan Ridge and the Monkey Forest are both walkable. Mornings before nine are the only time the terraces are quiet.
Check out after breakfast and transfer from Ubud to Seminyak — around 35 km, but plan for 1.5 to 2 hours on Bali's single-carriageway roads. There is no fast route between the hills and the coast, and traffic through the southern suburbs is the constraint. Arrive, check in, and take the rest of the day at the new base.
Seminyak is the upmarket stretch of coast north of Kuta — beach clubs, boutiques and a west-facing beach that makes sunset the fixed point of the day. The surf here has a real current and is stronger than it looks; swim between the flags. Petitenget Temple sits directly on the sand at the northern end.
Check out after breakfast and transfer from Seminyak to Nusa Dua — around 20 km, but plan for 1 to 1.5 hours on Bali's single-carriageway roads. There is no fast route between the hills and the coast, and traffic through the southern suburbs is the constraint. Arrive, check in, and take the rest of the day at the new base.
Nusa Dua is a gated resort enclave on the southern peninsula, laid out in the 1970s and deliberately separate from the rest of the island. The water is the calmest in south Bali — reef-protected and flat, which is why families and honeymooners are steered here. Quiet by design; you leave the enclave for anything with local character. Uluwatu Temple sits on a cliff about 70 metres above the Indian Ocean on Bali's southern tip. The Kecak fire dance is performed in the clifftop amphitheatre at sunset, around 18:00, told through a chanting male chorus rather than a gamelan orchestra — the timing means the performance ends as the light goes. Fair warning: the resident macaques are practised thieves and go for sunglasses and phones.
Breakfast and check-out, usually 11:00. Allow properly for the drive back to Ngurah Rai — southern Bali traffic is unpredictable and the run from Nusa Dua can take far longer than distance implies. International departures need three hours; the airport is busiest in the evening.
