Land at Suvarnabhumi (BKK). Indian passport holders now enter Thailand visa-free for 60 days under the Form 60 exemption, with a 30-day extension available at any immigration office. The Thailand Digital Arrival Card is compulsory — file it online at least three days before departure and keep the QR code. The airport sits 30 km east of the centre; 45–60 minutes in, more in traffic.
Grand Palace opens 08:30 and closes admission at 15:30, with a dress code enforced at the gate — shoulders and knees covered. Wat Pho next door holds the 46-metre reclining Buddha and Thailand's oldest massage school, where a treatment costs a fraction of a hotel spa. Cross by public ferry to Wat Arun and climb the central prang for the river view. Early morning is the only quiet window.
Chatuchak Weekend Market runs Saturday and Sunday with some 15,000 stalls — go early, and expect to get lost. On weekdays the alternative is the canal network west of the river: longtail boats through Thonburi's khlongs, past stilt houses and waterside temples, showing the city that existed before the roads. Evening at Asiatique or the rooftop bars along Silom.
About 150 km south-east, two hours by road on Highway 7. Pattaya faces the Gulf of Thailand rather than the Andaman, so the sea is calmer and the seasonal pattern differs from the west coast. The bay curves for four kilometres with the beach road along its length.
Ko Lan lies 7 km offshore — 45 minutes by ferry, 15 by speedboat — and has the clear water the mainland bay does not. The Sanctuary of Truth on the northern shore is the other landmark: a vast all-timber temple, carved by hand and under continuous construction since 1981. Hard hats are issued at the entrance because the work is still going on around you.
This leg is a flight, not a drive — Pattaya to Phuket is roughly 1,100 km by road and around twelve hours, so everyone flies. Departures go from either U-Tapao near Pattaya or back through Bangkok, and the sector takes about 90 minutes. Phuket International (HKT) is at the island's north end; the southern beaches are a further 45–60 minutes.
Phuket Old Town's Sino-Portuguese shophouses along Thalang Road are the legacy of the tin boom, and the least-visited good thing on the island. The Big Buddha stands 45 metres on Nakkerd Hill with views over Chalong Bay. Beaches run from Patong's noise through Kata and Karon to the long quiet stretches at Bang Tao and Mai Khao. November to April is the settled season on this coast.
Breakfast, then north to Phuket International — 45–60 minutes from the main beaches, longer in high season. Three hours for an international departure. If you connect via Bangkok, remember Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang are separate airports 50 km apart.
