Land at Charles de Gaulle (CDG), about 45 minutes from the centre on the RER B. Indian passport holders need a Schengen visa — €90 plus VFS fees, and realistically 4–8 weeks from application to decision once appointment waits are included, stretching to 30–45 days in the summer peak. Apply for the country where you will spend the most nights. Treat the first evening as settling in rather than sightseeing.
Book Eiffel Tower tickets ahead; summit lifts sell out days in advance and the stair queue is long. Evening is the moment — the tower sparkles for five minutes on the hour after dark. Seine cruises leave from Port de la Bourdonnais directly beneath it. Notre-Dame reopened in December 2024 after the fire; entry to the cathedral is free but the queue forms early.
The Louvre closes on Tuesdays and is too large to see properly — pick two wings and accept it. Timed entry is compulsory. Montmartre in the afternoon: Sacré-Cœur on the hill with the city below, and the artists' square at Place du Tertre behind it. Versailles is the alternative full day, closed Mondays and reached on the RER C.
Direct TGV Lyria to Basel and on to Lucerne — five to six hours centre to centre — or a short flight into Zurich. The train is the better experience and puts you in the middle of town rather than at an airport. Lucerne's Kapellbrücke, the covered wooden bridge dating from the 1330s, is a two-minute walk from the station.
Engelberg is 45 minutes out, and the Titlis Rotair rotates through a full circle as it climbs to 3,020 metres. The glacier cave and the Cliff Walk suspension bridge are at the top; the snow is permanent, so gloves matter more than you would expect in summer. Afternoon on Lake Lucerne by steamer, or the Lion Monument in the old town.
The Luzern–Interlaken Express takes two hours along two lakes and is worth doing in daylight. Interlaken sits between Thun and Brienz beneath the Jungfrau. Onward to Venice is a flight from Zurich or a long rail day via Milan — most honeymoon itineraries fly, about ninety minutes in the air.
Venice has no cars; you move by vaporetto or on foot, and hauling luggage over the bridges is the thing everyone underestimates. St Mark's Basilica is free to enter but the queue is long and the dress code strict — shoulders and knees covered. The Doge's Palace next door is ticketed. The day-tripper access fee introduced in 2024 applies only to visitors not staying overnight; booked into Venice, you are exempt.
Vaporetto line 12 from Fondamente Nove reaches Murano in ten minutes and Burano in about forty. Murano has made glass since 1291, when the furnaces were moved off the main islands because of fire risk. Burano is the one with the painted houses — traditionally colour-coded so fishermen could pick out their own in fog — and it makes lace.
Gondola fares are set by the city rather than negotiated: currently around €90 for thirty minutes in daylight and more after 19:00, per boat rather than per person. The quieter back canals are better than the Grand Canal. Cicchetti bars in Cannaregio for the evening — small plates and a glass of wine, the Venetian answer to tapas.
Water taxi or the Alilaguna boat to Marco Polo (VCE), around an hour depending on where you are staying. This is not a transfer to leave late; boats do not go faster for running behind. Three hours at the airport for an international departure.
