Land at Velana International (MLE) on Hulhulé, the island next to Malé. Immigration is quick — Indian passport holders get a free 30-day visa on arrival. From here your resort island is reached by speedboat (roughly 15–50 minutes depending on the atoll) or by seaplane (about 40 minutes plus a short boat hop). One thing worth knowing: seaplanes are only permitted to fly in daylight, 06:00–15:30, so a late landing can mean an overnight in Malé. Check in, and take the first evening slowly.
Every Maldivian resort island sits on its own house reef, so the snorkelling starts a few steps from the sand — no boat needed. Expect parrotfish, angelfish and reef sharks in the shallows, and green turtles where the seagrass beds are healthy. Mornings are calmest and visibility is best before the afternoon breeze picks up. Afternoon is for the hammock, the pool or the lagoon; sunset here is the event of the day.
A short boat ride reaches one of the bare sandbanks that appear and shift with the tides — a strip of white sand in open ocean, and the photograph everyone comes home with. Pair it with a visit to an inhabited island such as Maafushi to see everyday Maldivian life. Note the rule that catches visitors out: on local islands modest dress is required and alcohol is not served, since the Maldives is a Muslim country. Resort islands are exempt.
Breakfast, then check-out — usually 11:00, with late check-out subject to availability. Transfers are timed backwards from your flight, and if yours is a seaplane resort the 06:00–15:30 flying window sets the schedule rather than your preference. Allow buffer at Velana; the international terminal gets busy through the afternoon departure bank.
