Arrive at Velana International (MLE). Indian passport holders receive a free 30-day visa on arrival. Transfer onward by speedboat (roughly 15–50 minutes) or seaplane (about 40 minutes plus a short boat transfer), depending on which atoll your resort sits in. Seaplanes fly in daylight only, 06:00–15:30, so arrival timing matters. Settle into the villa, and take the first sunset from your own deck over the lagoon.
Water villas sit over the lagoon with steps straight into it, so the first snorkel of the trip needs nothing more than a mask. The house reef edge is where the density is — reef sharks, rays gliding over sand, and shoals that move with the current. Go early; visibility is at its best before midday. The rest of the day belongs to the deck, the water, and doing very little.
Spinner dolphins are resident across the atolls and travel in pods that can run to several hundred. Late afternoon is when they are most active, and dhoni cruises head out to find them as the light drops. Whether you see them is a matter of luck and sea state — no operator can promise dolphins — but the odds are good and the light on the water at that hour is the reason to go regardless.
Sandbanks are bare islets of sand that surface with the tide and vanish again — a boat drops you on one with nothing but ocean in every direction. Back at the island, Maldivian spa treatments lean on coconut oil and local techniques, and most overwater treatment rooms have a glass panel in the floor. A slow day by design: this is the one people remember.
Breakfast, then check-out — typically 11:00, late check-out subject to availability. Your transfer is timed against your flight, and seaplane resorts are bound by the 06:00–15:30 daylight window. Leave buffer at Velana International; the afternoon departure bank is the busiest stretch of the day.
